WHAT BETH MAITLAND’S EMMY COULD MEAN FOR TRACI ABBOTT’S NEXT STORY
TL;DR:Beth Maitland wins Daytime Emmy for Traci Abbott, 41 years after her first. On screen, Traci is the Abbott everyone leans on. Will the new writers give her a story of her own when they take over November 11?
Maitland Takes Her Second Emmy, 41 Years After the First
Beth Maitland wins Daytime Emmy gold again, and it only took 41 years. On Friday, October 30, 2026, she won Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for Traci Abbott on Young and the Restless, beating castmate Camryn Grimes, who plays Mariah Copeland. Her first Emmy came in 1985, when she became the first performer on the show ever to win one. As she tells it, “I was so nervous I walked right out of my shoe going up the stairs at the Waldorf-Astoria on live television.”
Now comes our question: will the trophy finally buy Traci a story of her own? On screen she is the Abbott everybody leans on, and her most recent scenes, on October 28, had her welcoming Sally Spectra and baby Ruby to the mansion. New co-head writers Jamey Giddens and Dan O’Connor see their first episodes air Wednesday, November 11, with Jill Abbott slowly recovering from surgery.
Beth Maitland’s speech was pure Traci, warm and aimed at everyone else. “Every one of you a winner, every one of you a part of the contribution daytime makes in a world gone mad,” she said, thanking a daytime community that has “embraced me for four-and-a-half decades.” Roger Howarth won supporting actor the same night, so the show swept both supporting categories. It capped quite a month for Maitland, who is recovering from knee replacement surgery. Every Abbott move from here lands in our two weeks of Young and the Restless spoilers.

Aunt Traci Spent 2026 Fixing Everyone Else’s Problems
Days before the win, Maitland summed up her character: “Aunt Traci is who everyone comes to with their problems.” This year’s scripts proved her right. In April, Traci called out Diane Jenkins, a woman who once faked her own death, for coming down so hard on her brother Jack Abbott. In June, she spotted Patty Williams with a suspicious doctor, tipped off Jack and confronted Patty over Colleen Carlton, the daughter Traci lost in 2009.

The fall brought more of the same. On September 24 she told Billy Abbott, “Jill is not well,” and pushed him to invite his mother to the wedding. On October 8 she got Lily Winters to admit her cancer scare and sat with her when the results arrived. Notice the pattern? Every one of those scenes served somebody else’s crisis, and a two-time Emmy winner deserves a crisis of her own.
Will Traci Abbott Get a Bigger Story on Young and the Restless?
Nothing has been announced, and none of the CBS episode descriptions for November 2 through 6 mention Traci. That week belongs to the rest of the family: Sally seeks Jack’s counsel on Tuesday, and Diane hosts a reunion on Thursday.
Still, the doors are open. In October, Giddens shared a video from inside the Abbott mansion, where it was already “Christmas time here in Genoa City.” One report listed Beth Maitland among the actors on set for those holiday scenes, and another says an Abbott family holiday celebration is coming. Reading between the lines, Traci has a seat at that table.
The second door is a classroom. On the October 26 episode, Devon Winters said he wants Traci, an author with a new book out, teaching at his new college. She hasn’t answered on screen, but it would be her first fresh start in ages that isn’t about someone else’s emergency.

Our Readers Already Wrote Traci Into Baby Ruby’s Life
When we asked readers to pick a godmother for baby Ruby on our Facebook poll, Traci came up in 53 of the first 100 comments, more than anyone else. “Traci, she’s a sweetheart inside & out. She’s the most sensible of the bunch,” one fan wrote. Another asked for Ruby’s middle name to honor Colleen.
No godparent has been named on screen, and Traci is the aunt who knows what it costs to lose a child. Don’t be surprised if the new writers put Ruby in her arms and let that bond grow.

Traci Has Earned a Story of Her Own
My gut tells me the holiday at the Abbott mansion is where the new writers start. With Jill recovering, Billy heading home from London and Sally leaning on Jack, the family will need its listener, which is exactly when a soap flips the spotlight.
Forty-one years after she lost her shoe on the way to her first Emmy, Beth Maitland walked off with a second one. Now the writers should give Traci somewhere new to walk.
What story do you want the new writers to give Traci? Tell us in the comments.

Beth Maitland Earned Her Encore, and Traci Abbott Deserves the Spotlight
Our take: the Emmy is real, and Traci’s next story has not been announced. Our call is that the new writers put her at the center of the Abbott holiday, and that Ruby or Devon’s classroom opens the door to a story that is finally hers.
Team Godmother says keep Traci at the heart of the family. Team Classroom says send her somewhere new. Pick your side on our Facebook page.
