South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has said the outcome of the United States midterm elections could signal a shift in international relations following electoral setbacks for President Donald Trump and his Republican allies.
Ramaphosa made the remarks on Wednesday while speaking to journalists after casting his vote in South Africa’s municipal elections.
He said the election results reflected the position of American voters and expressed hope that the political developments would influence relations between countries.

The Trump administration has taken several measures against Pretoria, including plans to withdraw South Africa’s duty-free access to the American market. Washington also reduced financial assistance to the country last year and expelled South Africa’s former ambassador.
