The Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series will make its first venture out of the Northeast in series history a very big venture south.
Management of the Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series announced Thursday that the division will open its 2027 season at New Smyrna Speedway in New Smyrna, Fla.
The Feb. 13, 2027 event will be a combination race co-sanctioned by the Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series and the North Carolina based SMART Modified Tour and will be part of the historic World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing.
Over its first 13 seasons the Monaco Modified
Over its first 13 seasons the Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series has never competed outside of New England or further south than Waterford, CT.
Renee Dupuis, Director of Series Development for the Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series, has been working with SMART Modified Tour owner/operator Chris Williams and New Smyrna Speedway owner Jane Hart since last February to bring the event to fruition.
“We have a great relationship with Chris Williams and SMART, and it’s been no secret that we’ve been trying to do a combo race for the last couple of years,” Dupuis told RaceDayCT. “I think that’s a pretty well-known fact that we’ve been trying to collaborate.
There have been times over the last several
“There have been times over the last several months where it’s like I thought it was a dead deal. Other times I was like, well, maybe there’s a possibility of this happening. But it started getting real serious again about a month ago. … It’s just something we’re super excited about.”
Said Williams: “Modifieds are made for New Smyrna Speedway, and the SMART Modified Tour powered by Pace-O-Matic is extremely excited to start its season with the World Series.
The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour opened its season at New Smyrna Speedway from 2022 through this past season. It was a surprise to many when the track was missing from the 2027 Whelen Modified Tour schedule when that schedule was announced on October. 14.
New Smyrna has hosted the World Series
New Smyrna has hosted the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing since 1968. A Tour Type Modified division has been part of the World Series since 1976 and annually attracts a multitude of Northeast based teams, many of which compete full-time or part-time with the Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series. The Tour Type Modified division typically runs five consecutive nights at New Smyrna. The division is expected to run from Feb 15 to Feb. 19 in 2027.
“I was sitting there in Jane Hart’s office last [February], and I’m looking at the teams that are there for the [the World Series] and I’m like, ‘You know, the majority of these people already compete with our series,’” Dupuis said. “So in terms of competitors, most of them are already there.”
The New Smyrna event will be the opener of what is expected to be an nine-race schedule for the Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series schedule in 2027. The New Smyrna event will not be a points-paying event for the Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series. The Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series completed its 13th season on Saturday at Seekonk Speedway, where Jon McKennedy was crowned the series champion for the second consecutive season and third time overall. Thirteen teams competed in all nine Monaco Modified Tri-Track Series events this season.
‘We do not want to force our teams to go there,” Dupuis said. We’re just coming off a season where we doubled the amount of competitors that completed in all of our races. Literally doubled. So I think that we have a really good formula that’s working and none of us want to screw that up.”
