Investor interest in the restaurant sector often centers on high-growth chains capable of nationwide expansion. Dutch Bros(BROS+1.75%) and CAVA Group(CAVA-0.23%) both fit this profile, but which is the better buy today?

Dutch Bros focuses on the high-margin beverage market, using a drive-thru model that prioritizes speed and a customer-first culture. CAVA Group offers a Mediterranean-themed fast-casual experience, positioning itself as a healthier alternative in the quick-service world. Both companies are currently scaling their footprints across the United States to capture market share.

    The case for Dutch Bros

Dutch Bros is a drive-thru beverage company that serves customizable hot and cold drinks, including coffee, tea, and soda. As the company scales, its focus remains on speed and customer service. It relies on key partners like Portland Bottling Co. and Lieb Foods for its proprietary Rebel energy drinks, which accounted for approximately 22% of systemwide sales in 2025.

In FY 2025, revenue reached nearly $1.6 billion, representing growth of approximately 27.9% compared to the prior year. The company reported a net income of roughly $79.8 million for the period. This was a significant improvement over the roughly $35.3 million net income achieved in FY 2024.

As of its December 2025 balance sheet, the current ratio is approximately 1.5x, reflecting the company’s ability to cover short-term debts with short-term assets. The debt-to-equity ratio, which compares total debt to shareholder equity, is roughly 1.6x. During FY 2025, the company generated free cash flow of nearly $54.4 million, which is the cash remaining after paying for operations and capital expenditures.

    The case for CAVA

CAVA Group is a Mediterranean fast-casual restaurant company that serves customizable bowls and pitas. It manages a multi-channel digital ecosystem and a consumer packaged goods business that sells dips and dressings in grocery stores. The company reached a milestone of 500 restaurants in 2026, targeting a diverse consumer base across 30 states.

In FY 2025, revenue reached nearly $1.2 billion, reflecting a year-over-year increase of approximately 22.4%. The company generated a net income of roughly $63.7 million. While this is lower than the net income reported in FY 2024, it indicates that the company is maintaining profitability during a period of rapid unit growth.

As of its December 2025 balance sheet, the current ratio is approximately 2.7x. This liquidity measure indicates how well the company can meet its short-term obligations using its short-term assets. The debt-to-equity ratio is roughly 0.6x, and the company generated free cash flow of nearly $26.1 million in FY 2025, which is the cash left over after paying for operations and capital expenditures.

Dutch Bros faces intense competition from national coffee shops like Starbucks and other quick-service retailers. The business carries risks associated with its rapid expansion, as finding suitable drive-thru sites and maintaining profitability in new markets is challenging. Furthermore, a heavy concentration of shops in the Western United States makes the company vulnerable to regional economic or weather-related disruptions.

CAVA Group depends on its ability to successfully open new restaurants profitably while managing supply chain complexities. It competes with other fast-casual leaders like Chipotle Mexican Grill and various regional Mediterranean chains. The company also faces inherent food safety risks and a significant reliance on digital channels, making it susceptible to cybersecurity threats or technological failures.

    Valuation comparison

While both companies trade at high multiples relative to the broader market, Dutch Bros currently offers a lower valuation on both earnings and sales metrics.

    Forward P/E 42.3x 101.0x
    P/S ratio 4.0x 4.7x

Which stock would I buy in 2026?

First things first — I think both of these businesses are great options for investors looking for growth stocks in the consumer discretionary space. Dutch Bros’ unique culture and focus on efficiency make it a leading concept in its niche. Meanwhile, CAVA’s Mediterranean fast-casual offerings are one-of-a-kind and differentiated from myriad chicken-and-burger-focused fast-food concepts.

That said, I’d have to lean ever-so-slightly toward picking Dutch Bros over CAVA. While I hold a starter position in CAVA, Dutch Bros is a core holding for me thanks to its ambition to grow its shop count by 15% annually, aiming to expand from roughly 1,200 locations to 7,000 over a decades-long time frame. Now able to fund these expansion plans fully in-house, rather than relying upon debt or share offerings, Dutch Bros could become a powerful growth machine as long as it keeps customers happy.

While CAVA targets similar store-count expansion rates, its P/CFO of 31 is higher than Dutch Bros’ 22. Ultimately, both businesses are great long-term growth investments, but I think BROS stock offers a bit more upside given its friendlier valuation relative to CAVA stock, as each holds a leadership position in its niche.
